There is a definite danger...

I would like to blame it on Pinterest, but I can't.  The blame would be on me.  I have become a frequent Googler of phrases including the words "tutorial" and "wikihow."  Today, after Jen W. left me to my own organizing devices (but well-equipped to organize) I did some cleaning of the room.  I whipped out the Goo Gone, Mop N Glo, Windex, and Kirkland wipes (not a sponsored post, but I certainly wouldn't turn down freebies of these products) and I cleaned like my life depended on it.

So what's dangerous about this?  Nothing so far...to my knowledge.

Obviously, I had some ideas brewing while cleaning (based on previous Googling.) I had to run to Home Depot for my mom and while I was there, I priced how much it would be to put up a backsplash in my bathrooms, a new full-size glue gun (and glue sticks), and shopped for paint to repaint my desk (a normal boring color...it's disgusting with adhesive marks and Goo Gone didn't make them disappear.)

When I got back to my classroom, I thought a shelf looked dingy after scrubbing it so I scrounged up some white paint and quick primed it between rain showers (while not in my painting clothes) so I can paint it tomorrow.

What the heck am I thinking? I can paint just about anything.  If it isn't nailed down (and sometimes if it is), I can paint it.  That could be dangerous!

T.G.F.J.W.

No, the post title is not referring to me!  I'm sorry Shawna and Newman, it doesn't stand for a super fun random acronym party.  T.G.F.J.W. stands for "Thank God for Jen W.". Come to think of it, if any of my friends would think of organizing my classroom as a party...Newman and Shawna might appear on that list. Jen is organized and is kindly coming to help me find the next step.

You know when you clean and organize seriously, where you drag everything out, reorganize as you put it back, and you kind of revel in the fact that your spice cabinet is alphabetized by spice within flavor profiles?  (I don't go quite that far, they are normally alphabetized, though.". Where I'm at with my classroom is the spices are dragged out, but I'm not sure how they should be put back.  Do they go by cuisine? Alphabetical? By common name or plant species?  I think the only productive thing I accomplished today is that I filled 1.75 trash cans, set up my attendance binder, and made a cute folder,  I also set the DVR to record some Shark Week highlights of the next 24 hours.  If Jen hadn't come along, I would waste time doing stupid stuff until the last minute and shove the stuff into a cabinet and not face it until probably next June.

I seriously need to go to sleep.  Hopefully, I remember Jen's coffee order because I seriously owe her.

My Other Home

According to Foursquare, I've checked into Home Depot 17 times and the bulk of them have been this summer.  I've bonded with people in paint, flooring, and lumber.  That doesn't even include the trip to the garden center for a plant for outside of my classroom or helping my best friend figure out some things for her bathroom renovation.

I'm still working on my room.  It needed some major work.  The walls wouldn't come clean when I washed them, the room needed a different arrangement for better flow, and the storage needed to be gone through.

So far, I've painted the room a color called Natural Linen, swapped out cabinets, moved the computers, moved the worship area, painted a metal shelf, and scrubbed everything clean.  I've gone through most of the storage, rearranged things so I can find them, and organized one drawer of my desk.  I need to do so much yet.  I'm really excited about the metal shelf.  I really would love to include a picture, but I'm on vacation and don't really want to create an account to upload pictures and upload pictures.  You'll just have to wait...but not long.  Teachers report back August 12th and I'll really be back to work next week.

Right now? I'm going to quick check my Facebook, take a nap, and catch some fireworks at Disney.  Have fun!
